If you’re one of my wonderful subscribers or have been following my blog and Facebook page over the past month, you will have noticed that my weekly posts have been pretty heavy going. They have challenged you to look deep within your soul to honour your emotions and feelings so that you can start to recognise who you really are and distinguish your own beliefs from those of everyone else around you. I also posted My Inspirational First Aid Kit this week – a post from my old website to help you if you are feeling a bit low after all the soul-searching.
This work IS so important and it can be painful if you take the time to really look into the depths of your own soul and admit what to yourself the things you need to change to truly follow your own path. It can be easy to become wholly absorbed by it and start to take yourself and all of life a little too seriously.
So, it’s time to get serious – about not being serious!
It is easy to forget to have fun when there is so much ‘stuff’ to do – for yourself, your family and others. But giving yourself the permission and time to have fun and making this as much of a priority in your life as all of the serious stuff, is just as important. Remember the old saying “all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” – meaning not only do others get bored of you, but you get bored of the same old thing day in day out too. You may even start to wonder why you are working so damn hard in the first place if it doesn’t ever seem to get you the life you dreamed you would have by working that hard!
There is another reason to devote some quality time to having fun…
Making time for fun sends a message to the Universe that you want to manifest more of the same.
I’m back to the ‘like attracts like’ again – one of my favourite sayings (and one that my crystal therapy students are probably sick of hearing!). It’s the Law of Attraction in action – if we live in a positive and fun way, then we send vibes out into the universe to attract more of the same. In scientific terms this is simply a ‘positive feedback loop’ – the more positive you are, the more positive experiences you attract, and the more positive you become, etc, etc. It’s the compound effect in action too – and as Darren Hardy says in his book of the same name: “our present reality is an outcome of the little, seemingly innocuous decisions that have added up to your current bank balance, waist line, business success, relationship status, etc.”. I’ll add happiness to that list too!
And the good news is that it really doesn’t have to be something big like a holiday – although couldn’t we all do with two weeks on a warm tropical island? In fact, just the opposite is true. Adding in fun and silly things EVERY day is the key to unlocking the magic of bringing more fun into your life on a permanent basis.
So, little seemily innocuous decisions to have fun can lead to a happier and more fulfilled day to day life.
Well, I’m glad you asked…
20 fun things to do (almost) instantly:
- have an impromptu dance party in your kitchen (even if it’s just you!)
- play a board game
- put on a silly voice
- jump on a trampoline
- have office chair races
- make your meals into smiley faces
- watch a funny movie
- swing on a swing
- colour in
- treat yourself to an icecream
- fly a kite
- blow bubbles
- fart out loud and blame someone else (OK, I’ll admit this was suggested by my sons who find all bodily functions hilarious!)
- play a video game
- read a funny book
- tell silly jokes – What do you call a woman in the distance? Dot
- join in games your children invent
- have friends over for dinner
- have a watergun/nerfgun fight
- leave work early!
Now, I am sure there is something in that list that you can do this week to bring some fun into your life! Oh, and if you decide it’s number 13 – don’t blame me!!
“Never underestimate the importance of having fun.” ~ Randy Pausch
Let me know how you get on, have a fun week & I’ll see you next Friday,
The perfect crystal for having fun and bringing joy to everything that you do is Citrine. This is the ultimate ‘feel good’ crystal and its yellow colour corresponds with your Solar Plexus chakra – the chakra responsible for your personal power and self-confidence.
